Dance Evolution’s ballet teacher Emily Caruso Parnell will present this July at the Dance and the Child International (daCi) conference in Taipei, Taiwan. Dance and the Child International is a non-profit organization, founded in 1978, dedicated to the growth and development of dance for children on an international basis. She will be presenting on a panel with three other leading Ontario dance educators and will be discussing dance curriculum development and instructional practices in Ontario. The daCi conference is presented every three years and in 2012 will be held in collaboration with the World Dance Alliance (WDA). WDA serves as the primary voice for dance and dancers throughout the world, and encourages the exchange of ideas and the awareness of dance in all its forms. Parnell, who also works as an Arts teacher in the Rainbow District School Board, will be presenting the results of research she conducted in collaboration with her school board colleagues. This research examined ways in which dance can be used to expand children’s expressive opportunities in primary classrooms. Parnell undertook this research as part of completing her Masters of Arts in Dance Theories and Practices (focus on dance education) at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Parnell has been teaching at Dance Evolution since 2004 and continues to share her love of dance and joy in movement with students of all ages.
